A few months ago, I was thinking about some of the comments I leave on other blogs. I was shamelessly patting myself on the back, because I was proud of the insights I offered. And that reminded me that sometimes, other people’s blog posts are worthy of reading again.
And so, I decided to turn this little idea in my very little head into a blog post of my own. Grabbing some comments I make on other blogs and turning them into blurbs. This is a play on something Kevin already does (as I’m sure other bloggers do as well – call me a copy cat). We’ll see how it goes, but if you like it, I might make it a repeat performance.
H8 a Little Longer! There’s been lots of heat going around this week regarding the California Supreme Court’s Decision to uphold Prop 8. Marty over at Banal Leakage wrote an incredibly thoughtful piece about Prop 8 (see link below). If you’ve been a reader of this blog, you know that I strongly support equal rights and am an advocate for gay marriage. Clearly, I do not support Prop 8, which changed the California state constitution to define marriage as only being between a man and a woman. The Supreme Court decision is disappointing, but to me, what’s more disappointing is that how a majority of California voters feel on this civil rights issue. May there be a day when each of them looks back at this time with shame in their hearts regarding how they treated other human beings. {credit: Marty}
Deliciously Frauded! Delicious Design Studio has done it again. As you’ll recall, I had some issues with the blog design firm last year. More recently, two ladies blogged about their problems with this firm. From these exchanges, I have learned a couple things for anyone else experiencing problems. First, dispute your claim directly with DDS, preferably in writing (because if you try to get the dispute resolved through other means, they’ll always start off with what did you do to directly work with DDS). Second, if you put a deposit down and did not receive your design, you can lodge a dispute through PayPal. They ask that you lodge these complaints within 45 days of your payment, however if enough people lodge complaints (even after 45 days), they will look into it. Finally, go write a review on Yelp. Even if you and I were duped, there are future customers who might be saved from a horrible experience. {credit: Hope and Lisa}
Twitter Me Pink! Word on the street is Ashton Kutcher (who has 1 million plus followers on Twitter) is pissed about a proposed Twitter TV show that encourages people to follow celebrities and Twitter about what they see. My thoughts? I get his point. It’s one thing for an individual (famous or not) to put information about their own life into the Universe. It’s quite another thing to have throngs of people trying to find your shit out just to do well on a game show. Though, in the end, I think Kutcher earns tool status for sharing his life with 1 million plus followers, whether on his own terms or not. {credit: Katie}
iPhoney! Must Love Geek suggested AT&T is holding its iPhone customers hostage. And that once the iPhone is available through other service providers, customers will flock away from AT&T. I couldn’t agree with her more! I left AT&T a couple years ago because their customer service was horrible. The dropped calls were horrendous (far worse than any other provider my friends used). And I’d had enough. So much so that I have yet to purchase an iPhone. I don’t care if I’m not cool with my non-smart phone (does that make it a dumb phone?!) I will wait until I’m old and gray (sssssh, if I color my hair, that doesn’t mean I’m there yet) until the iPhone is offered through other providers. My only question is why did Apple commit themselves so early? (AT&T must be paying them some sweet royalties!) I’d say they’re losing out on potential business by only offering the iPhone through one service provider! {credit: Must Love Geek}
Squared! Many of you will remember my post about toilet paper squares and how Sweets thinks I use too many of them. (If you missed it, check it out here!). How many squares a person should use can be argued and the answer is definitely subjective. But, one thing that Sweets and I are in agreement on is how the toilet paper is dispensed. I couldn’t agree more with Bodelou – toilet paper should come out the top of the roll, not the bottom! {credit: Bodelou}
Have a great weekend!

Well, I don’t take my snippets from comments I leave on other blogs. I just find shit to write very little about and run with it. But close enough.
As for AT&T, it’s funny because we’re in approximately the same area and yet AT&T is probably the best service I’ve had. For me, Nextel/Sprint was the worst. Haven’t tried Verizon, though. I’ve heard good things about them, but we like having our bundled bill. If U-verse rolls out here in Geneva, we may jump on that too.

I like this little segment! You are very always very thoughtful with your comments so I think this is a great idea!
RE AT&T: I haven’t read Must Love Geek’s post yet but I tend to agree with your take on the iPhone (that they are holding their customers hostage). I also think it is unnecessary of Apple as I do think there would be many more people with iPhones if they had other carrier choices.

I love this idea you had. It differs from Kevin in that you are taking things from other blogs, which seems like a great way to introduce people to new (to them) blogs. I love it!
I totally agree with you about prop 8. I wonder if some people may be confused because what it means seems counterintuitive. I know whenever I write or say anything about it I have to take a second and make sure my for or against means what I mean it to mean…against prop 8 means FOR people, know what I mean? At least that is what I am going to choose to believe as the reason so many people are for it. Otherwise I am sad for the world.

Im so disappointed in Cali.

Heehee, I liked this!
The Prop 8 situation upsets me in many ways and I feel so helpless that I can’t do anything to help other than sign petitions and let it be known that I’m all for marriage between anyone.
Ever since you wrote that post about toilet paper squares I have started watching my consumption. I also convinced my office to purchse recycled T.P from now on and they did. Any little bit helps, right?

RE Toilet Paper: In the past I never paid attention to which way the toilet paper fell. But when I started living with my husband, we had a little chat about it. He’s definitely on your side and now I’ve been converted. My guy also comments on how much I use. So I have at least started to try to watch my consumption.

Thanks for the Yelp link, I did go write a review. I’m considering myself lucky though, at least I got *something* for my money. I can’t believe how many hundreds of dollars she’s taken without producing anything.

This was very fun. I agree with you on the iphone snippet. The BF has one and while it is a fun phone, AT&T sucks. That is why we don’t have a family plan becaue I am not giving up my carrier.

This is fun!
I don’t have a smartphone either and decided against one. Part of my simplifying process I suppose. I read about the blog designer and it appauls me. Shes talking a lot of money from peeople and not delivering. I hope she gets shut down. Have a great weekend!

This DDS thing just infuriates me. The business practices are disgusting.
May 29th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Okay. That’s it. You’re never invited over. Toilet paper is dispensed from the bottom at Little Yellow House on the Corner.
May 29th, 2009 at 10:14 am
I agree on the toilet paper.
May 29th, 2009 at 10:15 am
It’s like the sharing option in Google Reader except for EVERYONE. Coolness.
May 29th, 2009 at 10:48 am
I agree, TP from the top only! What’s this about DDS? I must have missed that post about DDS. Email me? Don’t a lot of gals in the blog world seem to use them?
May 29th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
agreed -- tp needs to come from the top
can you please tell Shawn?

Some of my favorite posts were born out of comments I left for other bloggers who inspired something in me. I love that we challenge and inspire each other like this, especially to keep examining our own lives and feelings :)

“toilet paper should come out the top of the roll” absolutely!!
May 29th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Um, if Mr. Kutcher has a problem with that, he shouldn’t be on twitter or a famous hollywood star or just be out there period. Famous people deal with this stuff all the time. I think he likes the attention, otherwise he wouldn’t be in the business he’s in.
I can see what you mean about AT&T, but to be fair to them, the way the cell system is here in the US is almost unique. In other countries you can buy whatever phone you like and then pick a provider. The phone isn’t tied to a particular provider (plus everyone else has the GSM network). Here there are particular phones, and not only the iphone, that you can only find with one provider. However, some can be found among several providers. It’s silly. Why can’t all phones be available with all providers?
What pisses me off here in DC metro area, only Verizon is allowed to provide their customers with service underground in the metro. That’s stupid too. They are all businesses, all alike trying to make money in my opinion.

B uses wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much TP, too… but that’s a TMI Thursday for another day ;-)

Speaking of comments on others’ blogs, I gave you an award today :) Thanks for being such a great bloggin’ pal!

i agree; your comments are always very insightful, and it means a lot! i enjoy this segment as well!

I remember reading about your issues with DDS. The thing is, it seems like it should be so easy for them to sort it out. Stop taking on new jobs when they obviously can’t handle them all, refund some or all of the money to those they have kept waiting and disappointed, and hold up their hands and say, ‘we screwed up, we’re sorry’. Otherwise surely bad word of mouth is just going to continue?
Oh and I really liked the blurb idea.

I will not buy an iPhone until I can get it someplace else, preferably the carrier I’m with now.
I agree, TP should be dispensed over the top, however when you have small kids it helps to hide the end under/behind until they stop pulling at it until they’ve dispensed a roll-sized pile of it on the floor.

Thank for you for link and mention.
As a straight male, I’ve always supported gay marriage and equality. It makes zero sense to me why people would be against it, unless it’s just another layer of people they discriminate against, which if that’s the case, then we are in a for long fight. But progress in other states is being made, which is a good sign. Sad for those in Calif that didn’t get married during the legal period.

Hey I wanted to add a note about DDS -- I waited too long to file a dispute with Paypal but went directly to my credit card company with a dispute. I was able to get a refund in that manner.
