SoMi Speaks

Toes

Posted by SoMi's Nilsa on Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Yesterday, when I hit publish on my BlogHer post, it all of a sudden became very real. BlogHer. It’s next week. As in seven days from now. As in, my hair is a mess. And I have yet to buy a new pair of non-running shoes in 2009. And Oh My God, I’ve got to get my act together.

Quite seriously, I made a hair appointment for next week and promptly ran out at lunch to purchase two pairs of shoes.

shoes2

Well, three if you count these (but I don’t as I had already told Sweets I was going to buy them last weekend, so it’s not really part of my mini-freakout). And then I started to freakout a little more when I realized I have no idea what I’m wearing to the conference and these shoes may or may not really match the clothes I wind up wearing (note: I did have a few outfits in mind when I bought the shoes, but I still leave room to change my mind and wear something completely different – oh my).

And that’s when I knew I had gone over the edge. Because me? I’m not really a freak-out kind of girl. In fact, I rarely think about what I’m going to wear until, like, 5 minutes before I have to get dressed. And even then I rarely get anxious over my clothes. And I’m usually perfectly content with my choices. I’m far from a clothes maven (or whore), but I do have plenty of choices for all sorts of events. It shouldn’t be a big deal.

So, I returned to work after this mini-meltdown-shopping-spree. And I made myself a glass of pink lemonade. And I reminded myself that everything is going to be just fine. There will be parts of BlogHer (or people in attendance) who will abhor me, but there will be many more that make me feel like attending was exactly the right choice. Now, about that purse …

I am jealous that you are going to be there, but I TOTALLY get the freak out. I’d be the same way. I love the first pair of shoes. Very hot.

  2. Ben Says:

I love your taste in shoes.

  3. pseudostoops Says:

Hm. It IS next week, isn’t it? Perhaps I should alert my office that I won’t be in on Friday…

  4. Hotch Potchery Says:

What is it about being with a group of women, stranger (in real life) women, that makes us crazy about what we are wearing?

I am going on a NYC business trip and won’t stress for 2 minutes on what to wear, but then I am meeting my highschool girlfriends for two days, and will fret over that suitcase for a week.

I certainly wish I could pull off either of those pair of shoes though.

  5. Bethany Says:

This is so funny to me! I know I don’t know you, know you, but like you said in this post, I’ve never thought of you as the kind of girl who’d freak out like this! It’s cute! Love the shoes!! You’ll rock out BlogHER!!!

  6. Kristi Says:

Ha ha! I’m freaking out about how to wear my hair for a wedding. I have a distinct style in mind but have no idea how to do it. And I’m not paying a stylist to do an up do. It’s not MY wedding afterall!

Hope you calm down, take some deep breaths and just go with it. You always know how to look great!

  7. Shannon Says:

super cute. keep them no matter what!

  8. Marie Says:

Well here’s my advice: go out and by some more shoes. A girl can never have enough shoes. Or purses. Ever.

Yes, I have a little addiction. Just a tiny one. No biggie.

  9. becky Says:

i’m not going BUT you will have a great time. can’t wait to hear about it when you’re done!

  10. tori Says:

I am the same way with the freakouts. I’m not going to BlogHer, but with other things.

I LOVE the shoes, especially the first pair.

  11. Jess Says:

It’s all so fun, though! And the shoes are adorable.

  12. Heather Says:

My two cents worth? Wear what you feel totally comfortable in(both physical comfort and what you think looks good), not what is flashy. If you’re comfortable you’ll be able to forget the clothing and get on with enjoying yourself!

i wish i was going to be there : (

i wish i was going to be there : (

i want to go so bad i had to say it twice. and hot shoes btw, i’m really into zippers!

  14. cher Says:

“sigh” i SO wish i was going this year. i say that as if i have been any other year. my friend and i have made a pact and will be there next year.

    those snakey shoes…absolutely fabulous

  15. brookem Says:

ahhh! link to the first shoes PLEASE?! love them all, but kind of need to OWN number one.
have so much fun at blogher!

  16. hillary Says:

Lady, you sound more anxious about BlogHer than you did before your wedding! (I am totally not judging – I would be having a major meltdown if I were going to BlogHer.) Have fun!

  17. BS Says:

I actually enjoy this kind of worrying. I’ve been planning outfits for a girls’ weekend in August since June.

    JUNE.

But no need to fret, you’ll be great in your hot shoes!

  18. sizzle Says:

No one is going to abhor you! Silly. :-)

My feet hurt looking at those shoes but damn if they aren’t cute.

  19. Hilly Says:

I love that second pair of shoes!

Don’t worry, people are going to love you! You will have a great time then tell us all about it! :)

  20. wafelenbak Says:

Ha ha, I was thinking almost exactly what Sizzle said. Those shoes are gorgeous but my feet hurt just looking at them. You must be like my teeny little friend Heather who has been wearing 4 inch heels since she was in high school!

  21. Christyn Says:

In my experience, pink lemonade, or ice cream, or cupcakes, makes all meltdowns go away :)

  22. Alice Says:

ok, so i have my freakout scheduled for early next week, because i am just TOO BUSY to do it until then. but.. um.. seriously? what ARE you wearing? :-) because i have to start figuring this out!!

  23. Jessica Says:

I’m laying out clothes this weekend. No joke. I have a day and evening outfit for all days. I’m unreal. But I am “shopping my closet” as opposed to shopping for it.

  24. Larissa Says:

We women are truly apt to freak out about our clothes and accessories, aren’t we? I shamelessly count myself in this category, by the way.

  25. KT Says:

I love the second pair of shoes!! Too cute!

  26. christy Says:

I’m so jealous of all this blogher excitement. Definitely wish I could be there.

  27. Sparkling Red Says:

The zip-up shoes kick butt! Love’em!!

  28. adriana Says:

How could anyone possibly abhor you??? I’m with you though – I’d probably be super stressed if I were going! Have fun, and those are some super cute shoes!

  29. rosalicious Says:

BlogHer’s just as good an excuse as any! Don’t forget the pedi :)
