Production

What a productive weekend. Kind of sickening, actually. Though, we started Friday night with a little fun. A dear friend of mine (one of the few I’ve traveled with overseas … and still liked after the trip) just moved back to Chicago after spending the last 10 months in Idaho. She’s a huge White Sox fan (as is Sweets), so we decided to go to a White Sox game.

Now, for those not in the know, there are two teams in Chicago … the Sox and the Cubs. The Sox have always been known as the working man’s team. The southside team. While the rich and snobby northsiders have always pulled for the Cubs. (Note: gross generalizations here, but that’s what it essentially boils down to.) Now, while I’m on a roll with generalizations … take the working man’s team. This man is far from trendy, drinks lots of domestic beer and gets into a lot of fights. That’s just how they roll.

So, it’s kind of funny when the White Sox make fun of this reputation by having a theme night. In particular, Friday night was … mullet night. And OMG did the mullets come out. now, what I want to know is those people with real mullets … I want to know what they think of mullet night at the game. I mean, do they think it’s their turn to shine? Or do they become ashamed of their business-in-front-party-in-back locks? Or are they completely oblivious to the fact that the whole stadium is mocking them? In any case, my friend, Michelle, and I landed ourselves in a photo on the White Sox website … despite the fact we weren’t sporting mullets that night. In case anyone was wondering, the White Sox won.

Saturday, Sweets and I spent the day furniture shopping. What started as needing one or two more accent pieces for the living room has turned into a living room overhaul. We went to five different furniture stores. We found a couple options for a chair plus ottoman (something Sweets has been aching for for some time now). We found a couch we’re likely to purchase in the coming days (while my sofa is perfectly fine, Sweets hates it, so I have agreed to get rid of it – anyone in the market for a used, micro-suade sectional?). And we actually purchased a console table (the one thing I have actually had my eye on for the past six months).

Sunday, I completed a 10-mile training run (it went really well – despite the big setback my fractured elbow gave me, I really think I’m going to be able to run this half marathon in 2 weeks). Sweets went to Home Depot to purchase (and later assemble) a kick-ass storage thingamagig for our mostly unused balcony. And we both worked on cleaning/organizing our living space to accomodate the new console table (which Sweets also assembled earlier in the day). We put some paint swatches on the wall (I’ve been dying to get rid of the light blue in our living room). And, we finished the day with Sweets’ parents dropping off their dog (did I mention they are going to visit my parents this week … without us … guess our job is done and we are no longer needed!).

So, that’s my weekend in a nutshell. What was the highlight to your weekend?

Ah the mullet. Somewhere I have a pic of an El Camino with a license plate the read “MULLET”. Ha!

If you have children. That is when your job is done and you become obsolete. At least that is how it is with one side of the family for me! sad!!!

Love the furniture! Always love sprucing up the home. Would love to see photos of it all!

  2. Marie Says:

I’d like to think they think it’s their turn to shine.

Yay for running 10 miles!! I don’t think I’d ever be able to do it. No really.

Love the new furniture! I need a new couch too, but can’t afford one just now. Hopefully sometime in the near future.

  3. Christina Says:

Love the console, is that for your living room.

This weekend was wedding stuff, as per usual.

  4. A Super Girl Says:

Congrats on finishing 10 miles!!! DD did that as well (he’s training for the chicago full marathon) this weekend.

As for my weekend…best part was a wedding we went to that was completely awesome. But also very, very tiring :-)

  5. cher Says:

wow, that is great! i did my first duathlon this weekend, on a whim…decided at 9pm the night before. what a blast. If you are up to 10, you should be great for the 13.1 coming up!!!! fantastic job!

  6. Matt Says:

    Mullet night?

    thats the best idea EVER.

  7. Katie Says:

LOVE that sofa! I’ve had the same furniture for 6 years now, and I’m looking to switch it up. Though I lucked out since when I got it it was “modern style” and I think it STILL is. Regardless, I’d like some change.

Highlight of my weekend? I met my first “Blogging Friend” face to face and it was fantastic :)

  8. tori Says:

    I love the furniture!

Mullet night sounds like fun. My house is a Cubs house, but since I am not into sport at all, we can still be friends…just don’t tell my husband about your preference!

  9. k8 Says:

I love my chair plus ottoman. It makes me very, very happy.

  10. Lys Says:

wow, busy weekend! i myself am a cubs fan, which is practically a sin as i’m from wisconsin and i should be rooting for the brewers. whatever, wrigley field is way better than miller park.

best part of my weekend…revisiting coney island for some famous nathan’s hot dogs and strolling through the new york aquarium.

  11. Kyla Roma Says:

lol Mullet night, oh wow. That would have been pretty amazing! I’m glad you moved through so much, as an insane Type A personality, nothing feels better to me than checking items off a list =)

  12. pseudostoops Says:

Holy Cow I love that couch! (Any suggestions of must-check-out furniture stores in the city? We’re looking for some stuff, too.)

  13. Surfergrrl Says:

The furniture is cute! I had a productive weekend too. Played really well and relaxed on Saturday and someone finally asked me to play a tourney with them! Yay! Also ran a 5k yesterday. It’s no 10 miles, but considering I just sort of signed up randomly I thought my 31 minute time was no so bad. I am really sore today. lol!

  14. Nora Says:

Hi! I’ve missed reading your blog. Amazing what a week away will do (darn work trip). LOVE the sofa. I wish I lived closer so that I could come over and sip a glass of wine with you and catch up.

Congrats on the 10 mile training run. That’s amazingly awesome. I know you’ll be just fine on the run in a few weeks.

    HUGS!

  15. Sparkling Red Says:

That is a very sophisticated sofa. You guys have good taste!

  16. Alice Says:

oh man, new furniture makes me SO happy!! i wish i had the budget for a living room overhaul. ha, actually, i wish i had the drive to prioritize a living room overhaul in the budget, more accurately :-)

  17. Hotch Potchery Says:

The kids are taking my couch to college, so I will be in the furniture market in a month…

And your parents visiting with Sweet’s family? That is the cutest.

  18. Karen Says:

I love mullet night. How funny! And I love that sofa. I have nothing modern in my house. My style is a combination of traditional and Amish/Quaker. My furniture is that over-sized, over-stuffed, “sit down and never get up” style. However, there is something really attractive about that sofa. I love it.

  19. mandy Says:

The mullets were out in full force at the concert I just attended over the weekend. I think the people were definitely proud of their mullets though. I have no patience for furniture shopping — the haggling, the salespeople, ugh. God bless you and Sweets for making it through the process. The highlight of my weekend ? The whole damn thing!

  20. hillary Says:

I had big plans for a very productive weekend … and got nothing accomplished. I did, however, spend a delicious amount of time sitting on a patio sipping drinks in the sun. My weekend ended up being complete non-productive but very restorative.

I am a little disappointed that you didn’t wear a mullet.

  21. sizzle Says:

That’s so funny about the mullet night. Ha!

Sounds like you had some productive furniture shopping. I can’t wait to see it IN PERSON in a few days. (Whee!)

  22. Jess Says:

I LOVE furniture shopping, except the part where you have to pay.

Also, I don’t think anyone who has a mullet could ever feel ashamed of it. Because if they were capable of associating mullets and shame, they wouldn’t have one to begin with.

  23. rosalicious Says:

10 miles?! Girl, you can SO run that half!

Highlights of my weekend: dinner at a new restaurant in the ‘hood with friends, fixing the swamp cooler and enjoying some cold air in the house, planting some new flowers, washing my car after our road trip, wine festival and ensuing hijinks in the mountains with my best girlfriends, napping on the couch (in the cool air!) while “watching” bad TV, dinner with Kev at a yummy brewpub, new episode of Entourage.

There. I don’t need to blog today :)

  24. Christyn Says:

We have a 1.5 size chair with an ottoman and I practically live in the thing. It’s red suede and from my favorite store, Crate and Barrel. AND we just discovered a few months ago that the ottoman opens up for storage (yes, it took us about 5 months to realize that. L is for loser). (it kind of looks like this: http://www.buy.com/prod/fun-furnishings-22232-red-micro-suede-chair-sleeper/q/loc/66357/211085814.html?dcaid=17988)

Love the mullet night. LOVE IT. If only the Dodgers officially did that -- since so many people come with the hair style on, anyway.

Weekend -- hard to pick a highlight, as I said ciao to my hubby who is going to New Orleans for the week for a Youth event with the kids from church. My senile grandma is in town to keep me company for the week. Love the woman, but ohhhh goodness -- it feels like I am babysitting most of the time. Insert smiley face here!

  25. LiLu Says:

    MULLET NIGHT.

I now know what the theme to Maxie’s and my wedding will be…

  26. KT Says:

Congrats on the 10 miles- you are going to rock that half marathon!!

Mullet Night does sound funny….but the White Sox still suck. :-)

  27. Jessica Says:

No way there is seriously a mullet night? That would be awesome people watching!

  28. martymankins Says:

That console table looks very much like my liquor cabinet at home. Same style and look, but with doors on both sides and drawers in the middle… and a good stock on booze inside. :-)
