Crazed
I’ve been a bit absent from the blogosphere this week. I took Monday as a vacation day to spend with my mom, who was visiting from Boston. And yesterday? I just felt worn down. And felt the beginnings of getting sick. And since there were no immediate deadlines at work, I took the day to get better. (BTW, both blog posts from this week were previously written, so it was easy to post without putting a lot of time into them.)
As I mentioned, I spent the weekend with my folks. This was an early anniversary celebration for Sweets and me. On Friday night, we tried a new restaurant with my parents. Though my dad felt they had a bit of personality disorder (not exactly sure who they are yet), we all agreed the food was outstanding. I especially loved the two male waiters flirting with Sweets. That always cracks me up.
We went to a repeat restaurant with my parents and Sweets parents on Saturday night. Each time I sent my parents ideas for where to eat this weekend, my dad would tell me he was leaving the decision up to us, but they really enjoyed that cute French bistro last time and would be happy to go back. After three times of this, I finally got the clue and made the reservation. Another fabulous dinner.
Sunday, we hosted brunch for my parents and wound up with a house full of people. Sweets parents, brother and sister-in-law. The baby and one of her mamas. My aunt and uncle. My aid of honor. Our neighbors. It was amazing. And after looking at some of the photos, I’ve decided we made a great choice with colors in the living room. Everyone looks rosy and healthy and not gaunt and pale, the way the previous blue made everyone look. Plus, even though Baby Z may have made a funny face in the photo below (she was obsessed with the fireplace), she warmed up to me later that day and may have even giggled with me! Progress.
The weekend felt like it was non-stop. But, life with my folks is always like that. And it’s sort of what I signed up for by moving so far away from them. I see them in small, very concentrated doses. And I love it. The visit with my parents and the craziness that surrounded them makes me look forward to Thanksgiving. Where we’ll be going to Cape Cod to celebrate. And we’ll have so many people participating that we had to rent a second house for the week. It’s going to be awesome.

We see my parents in wonderfully crazy busy small concentrated spurts like that too. We love it! It always makes me wonder how our relationship would be different if we lived in the same town as them though. I wonder if the excitement for seeing them would go away and be replaced by annoyance? I really get along well with my ‘rents so it’s hard to imagine, but I wonder.

How strange…you and I must have been sharing a vibe yesterday. I took the day off of work and the Internet and watched tv on the couch almost all day. I was not feeling well but that day of rest really helped.
Anydoodle, I am glad you had a fun weekend.

I’m glad you had such a fun weekend! When my parents come visit they sort of just like to sit around. It’s nice to get to talk to them so much, but it would also be nice to not feel trapped in the house the entire time they are here.
And I’m cracking up that you talked about Thanksgiving because I was starting to make a list of what I needed to make and my husband was thinking I was crazy to be talking about it so early. Seriously though, planning Thanksgiving for everone and cooking for so many people takes planning and lots of lists! (and then naps after it’s over!)

Weekends like that are always fun, chaotic and slightly tiring. I think its so great that you all are able to get together like that for times other than holidays. And you had to rent a second house for Thanksgiving? That will be a lot of fun. Feel better!

I haven’t been to either of those two resturants in ages. I love the mac and cheese at Chalkboard and I have very special memories in Bistro Campagne.
I am glad thatyou had the opportunity to spend some time with your parents and extended family.

Sounds like a great weekend. So glad you had good times with both families. I envy you that you are going away for Thanksgiving. Though all of our family are near, I would love to take a trip during Thanksgiving or Christmas. It would just be something different and special for our nuclear family. Unfortunately I don’t know for sure what we are doing! Hope you don’t have a cold. I’m just getting over something and it is just not pleasant at all.

Your dad sounds like he has a very strong personality. So do you. It must be genetic.

The weekend sounds like a blast but Thanksgiving sounds like it will be AWESOME.

Though get-togethers like this one are always great, it seems that I always need a “vacation from my vacation” after to catch my breath. And I always wind up getting sick, though not from the company, but I think from the change in schedule, anticipation, and maybe the fact from having to clean my house. Yeah, I blame it on having to clean the house ;)
Take some vitamin C and Coldeeze! :)

I’m glad you had such a good time with your parents :) I think I would have a better relationship with my parents if I saw them in small, concentrated doses; this quantity over quality business is not working for me!
I hope you’re feeling better -- the tired, rundown, almost-sick feeling is horrid.

oh, I wish I had my mother in short, concentrated bursts. She is moving here. Today.
Your weekend sounds fun, and that Thanksgiving sounds GREAT!
