Today is just one of those bullet-induced days for me. I hope it doesn’t mean it’s vomit-induced for you.
- Sweets got this crazy idea in his head that he wanted to make homemade pasta. So, he pulled out a recipe from one of our books, borrowed a pasta roller from a friend and had at it on Sunday. And to celebrate his first attempt at homemade pasta, we decided to invite friends over. As if he might actually succeed. Well, succeed he did. The butternut squash ravioli with butter-sage sauce (similar to this) was divine. As was the cheddar cheese sticks (appetizer made by my maid of honor), hazelnut asparagus (mine!), garlic bread (contributed by our neighbor) and pumpkin squares for dessert! Oh yeah, Sweets also appreciated the other men helping him roll out the pasta dough. What a sight to see!
- A friend of mine is a sales consultant for Stella and Dot. She was in town this weekend hosting a jewelry party. I dragged a friend and off we went. The jewelry, inspired by our grandmothers’ jewels, is gorgeous. And possibly expensive. But, you know what? There are a lot of timeless pieces that will be worn for years. {That’s what she said after purchasing a couple pieces, ahem!} I might host one of these parties after the new year. Any takers?
- I tallied up how much money we’ve spent on our living room. It was more than we originally anticipated (but still within our means). Sweets and I talked about what we need to consider the living room complete: rug, small table, floor lamp, fireplace tiles. We are in agreement to move forward with all mentioned items, but to stay within budget this time. In other words, we cannot “go look” at places we know are too expensive for our tastes, because that’s when we wind up finding exactly what we want.
- I am training for a 15K (9.3 miles) race next weekend. Last weekend was my last chance to get in one last training run. It was cold and cloudy. I dressed accordingly and took off for my point-to-point run (I planned to finish at the farmer’s market, where Sweets would pick me up). By mile 0.5, it was cold and misting. By mile 3, it was cold and downright raining. By mile 6, it was cold and drizzling. By mile 8.5, it was cold and cloudy. Ironic that the worst part of the day was during my run, no? They always say it’s good to get in a bad training run. Last weekend was mine. Let’s hope the weather for the race this coming weekend is perfect!
- Generally, I spend as little time in the suburbs as possible. (Lots of reasons here, but that’s really a post of its own.) So, when an opportunity to see three different friends presented itself, I agreed to stay in the suburbs after work. First, I visited with a old co-worker who is now retired; I hadn’t seen her in nearly a year. Next, I went to this craft fair thing to purchase a few Christmas gifts from this friend. That’s where I also met up with Kim and Steven, who took me to a great Mexican place where we caught up over burritos. Not something I want to (or can) do every Friday night, but it is great to see and support friends when I can.
- SoMi has been a bit feisty lately. When we let her off leash in our (fenced-in) yard, she runs like a maniac back and forth (we claim she’s aerating our yard for better grass growth next season). This weekend, she was impossible to walk. The normally docile dog was pulling at her leash. No matter how many corrections I tried, she went right back to pulling. When a woman and her dog approached, she said her dog was friendly. Just as I was saying, “So is mine,” SoMi aggressively lurches forward and growls at the other dog. With a look of horror, I immediately correct SoMi and apologize to the woman. Later in the same walk, SoMi aggressively jumped on another dog (who was bigger than her). The owner laughed when I apologetically told him she hadn’t yet had her morning coffee. I’m not sure what’s gotten into her, but we will be working with her (diligently!) to get her back to the good old days. Sigh.
So, in a bullet or less tell me something that’s been on your mind, but isn’t worthy of a whole blog post!

Aww, SoMi. Jack can get like that during the change in seasons/crappy weather when he doesn’t get to run around as much as he would like. Very frustrating though!
Something on my mind? I’m thinking that today is a day where I’d like to be a bear. That’s right, a bear. Why you ask? So I could hibernate. I had to be at the office at 7:30 am which for me is , well, unheard of, and leaving my house before dawn? UNCOOL. I think I would have been a better bear as I’m excellent at snuggling under the covers, staying warm and sleeping =)

I am thinking about how it is going to be fun to help in my kids classroom today. But I wouldn’t post about that because it is sort of boring to read about.
Maya has been crazy lately too so maybe it is something with the weather?

Homemade pasta sounds yummy! And I have the exact opposite feeling about the Burbs as you do. I go into the city for work or a social event and I get out as soon as possible. Too many people and taking public transportation makes me anxious and nervous.
What’s on my mind is that I can’t stop eating the Halloween candy I bought for the Trick or Treaters. By 8 AM I already had a Kit Kat.

~ (how do I make a bullet point symbol? why don’t they have a bullet point symbol on keyboards these days?) I am thinking a lot about forgiveness as I’ve been reading a book about the sin of taking offense. It has been an emotionally hard read for me and difficult to imagine pardoning some of the wrongs I feel have been done to me. Then I have to think of all of the wrongs I’ve done in my life and it is humbling. I am going to work on some genuine forgiving and can only imagine it will, in the end, feel freeing. There are 2 chapters left in the book and I’m hoping they will help me with this process!

And thanks for coming out to the horrible suburbs to my show! :-) Hope it wasn’t too bad!

-Homemade pasta is so wonderful, it is hard to go back to the dried pasta. but it is a two person job!
-the jewelry party sounds fun!
-Yukon is also acting up lately. She has been having accidents and getting into a few things that she shouldn’t. I am not sure if it is the weather or age.

I was just looking at a pumpkin ravioli recipe. I know I don’t have the kitchen space to make my own, but it sure sounds like fun.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:48 am
oh man, that jewelry is SO GORGEOUS…!! i want, like, 80% of the “bold” necklaces from there :-)
October 27th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Good luck with your race! It sounds like your training run fit into that whole “bad dress rehearsal” adage.

Aw poor Somi! When our guys are like that they’re just in need of some serious tuckering out- I hope it’s that straight forward for you guys!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:14 am
mmm, i had some butternut squash ravioli this weekend at the cape and it was so, so yummy.
a 15k! woo! i so wish we could do a race together. one day i think it’s going to happen. would you think im insane if i told you im considering the chicago marathon in 2010? eek!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Good luck on the 15K! I didn’t even know they had runs specifically with that mileage. Maybe dogs get grumpy like humans do. Probably just a phase. Hopefully!
October 27th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Oh look, another reason for me to move to Chicago: you hosting a jewelry party (I don’t have the money to buy though).
Best of luck with the race! I’m sure you will be awesome and do just fine!
I hope SoMi gets better (or happier?). She’s just probably in a foul mood or something and needs to let it out.

What a weekend you had! Homemade pizza, intriguing book club, and a tough run in yucky weather! And what’s up with somi? Our dogs have been into hole digging in our back yard lately; it’s so frustrating!!! Good luck with your 15K!

P.S. ~ I heart Stella & Dot jewelry, too!!!

That’s so funny about Sweets making homemade pasta -- I was thinking about doing it this weekend too. I’ve never done it before and I’m really interested in giving it a go.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I have been kicking around the idea of making my own pasta for a couple of weeks, now. Sweets has inspired me!
Oooh, I bet we could have a lengthy email discussion about suburbs. I blame suburbs for everything that is wrong in the world. EVERYTHING.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Oh, and I realize that makes me a snot and a pain in the butt.
A., my partner, will bring up some kind of “evil” in conversation and I inevitably bring it back to suburbs. What can I say?
October 27th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
just thinking about how that ravioli sounds amazing. i ate a butternut squash on it’s own last night. so good
October 27th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I’m really impressed Sweets made homemade pasta. Mr. W and I tried to do that last year and it was NOT easy! Very messy. But tasty when we finished.
And you running in the rain?! Damn you’re dedicated. I would’ve called for an early pick-up for sure. :) Here’s hoping race day is sunny and beautiful.
October 27th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
I really need some bullets every once in awhile -- sometimes I like things short and sweet!
That pasta sounds good. I would love to try to make my own. I wonder if I could get away without egg though. (Today I brought two different kinds of vegan cookies to work for a meeting (I was asked to bring treats) and didn’t even tell my coworkers they were vegan! Someone always picks up on the flaxseed).
I can’t wait to hear how your run goes!
We had fun with you Friday night. Methinks a get-together with the four of us sometime?
I hope SoMi starts acting like himself soon! Morning coffee, lol.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Now I want pasta.
I wonder what’s up with SoMi? Maybe she’s jealous of the new furniture? ;-)
October 27th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Wow I’ve never had homemade pasta but it sounds amazing! What a great idea to have friends over to celebrate. Yeah this rain is awful, I cannot handle any more of it.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I really want to try that pasta! I hope SoMi is back to her old self soon!
What’s been on my mind? The fact that I can’t seem to focus longer than a few minutes and the fact that I want a new job, like now.
