And here I thought I was done with bullets yesterday.
Confession: I had a real post ready for today. But, then I decided not to publish it. Partly because I’ve written on the topic before. And partly because I’m not feeling as bitchy today as that post would lead you to believe. hahaha.
So, now I’m left with a blank canvas. And all I can think of are a few snippets. Again. Bear with me today and tomorrow I’ll deliver photos of our furniture!
- There is medical evidence linking our health to Vitamin D. Most people get sufficient Vitamin D through exposure to sunlight (a great source for the vitamin). During winter months, especially in the northern plain states where there is little sunlight, we become Vitamin D deficient, which leads us to getting sick more often. The solution? Take a daily Vitamin D supplement during the winter months to hopefully ward away the ickies. I started taking mine last week and think of it as swallowing a little ray of sunshine each day.
- I was recently asked to consider joining a Board of Directors for a national, non-profit organization. After picking my jaw up off the floor (me? on a Board of Directors???) and asking a litany of questions to the President, I said yes. The catch? My name is going to appear on a ballot in front of 60,000+ members. I must be voted onto the Board.
- Ironically, a few days after I said yes to the above-mentioned opportunity, I was asked to join another Board of Directors; this time for a local, non-profit organization. No election to this position, just an application process. I told non-profit #2 that I can’t commit to both Boards, but to please keep me in mind next year after we find out results from the non-profit #1 election. One way or another, I see participation on a Board of Directors in my 2010 future.
- A number of bloggers have added the Disqus comment application to their blogs. Can I just say, I HATE IT! I hate that it automatically signs you up to receive emails for all subsequent comments unless you remember to uncheck a box. I hate that it sends you a confirmation email to remind you that you forgot to uncheck the box you’re going to receive all subsequent comments. I hate that it wants you to become a member of their system even though you already have to give up certain information to leave a comment. I hate that it considers you a guest even after you give up information to post, allows you to click a button saying Post as Guest and then asks you whether you’re sure you only want to post as a guest. Too many steps for a simple comment! I get that the bloggers who use this system are trying to build communities. But, in all honesty, I think twice about commenting on blogs with this application because it’s such a royal pain in the ass. And if others are in the same boat as me, it means the bloggers who are trying to build a community are actually breaking theirs down in the process.
- When I sold my condo in June 2008, I had to set some of my profits aside in an escrow account. You see, my old building planned to do some work to the roof, which I knew about when putting my unit on the market. In order to assure a quick sale, I agreed ahead of time to pay for those repairs. The money in the escrow account was used to pay for those repairs. As security, the amount put in escrow was well above the expected amount I’d owe, just in case the costs were higher than the estimate. I followed up with my attorney this week regarding when I should expect to receive a check for the remaining funds. Turns out they cut a check to me last January (!!!!) and sent it to the wrong address. Thank goodness I followed up (although a wee bit late). They’re cutting a new check to me this week which more than covers our trip to Grand Cayman next March!
Looks like I could make a career out of bulleted posts. Since I ended this post with a bullet about money. Extra money. Extra spending money. Tell me, what would you spend your money on right now if you had something extra – above and beyond what it takes to pay the bills, debt, etc.

Yay! More bullets! :) Congrats on TWO Board of Directors offers! I am excited to hear more about it!
Did you know that Deena Kastor suffered from Vitamin D deficiency from wearing too much sunscreen? Craziness! I am going to try to go out for a few minutes at lunch time to get mine, ha, if we ever see the sun again.

I would definitely spend some extra money on a trip to Mexico for a friend’s wedding! It would be a great way to ring in the new year. Instead we’ll be in Ohio. Blah.

I despise Disqus, too! YUCK! I’m all for commenting, but I appreciate easy commenting! Go you on this board, too! Will you ever be able to tell us what org it is? Ummm. . . . awesome to follow up and hear extra money is headed your way (granted a little late)! If we had any unexpected extra, we’d spend it on, oh a little of this and a lot of that. . . . can’t really say just yet ;)!

With my blood issues, my Vitamin D level was so low that I was given a prescription for tanning and my health insurance covered a portion of the tanning package. A bit of sunshine is good thing.
It is nice to be thought of so highly!! Not that you are looking to change jobs, but being on the Board of Directors of anything looks great on a resume. I did a two year stint as the president of a “The Foundation” which is a charity associated with a local hospital. And as the president I got a seat on the hospital board for those two years. The fact that I was on the hospital board of directors is always a huge topic of conversation in an interview.

Congrats on getting asked to serve on two boards Nilsa! I need to start taking Vitamin D pills too. I’m completely with you on Disqus comments, they are a pain. Hooray for extra money. If I had unexpected extra money I would be planning a getaway that involved a few friends, a warm tropical climate and an unilimited amount of fruity drinks with little umbrellas in them.
October 28th, 2009 at 8:18 am
Vitamin D also helps your body absorbe calcium. So if you take vitamin D, take one with calcium pills that way you get your dose of sunshine and stronger bones.
Congrats on the invitation to join two boards. What an honor.
If I had extra spending money (right now a pipe dream) I would save it for our vacations next year. We want to Go to San Francisco and Canada.

My doctor tested my vitamin D a while ago and found it was really really low. I am taking this HUGE prescription dose of vitamin D every day to build it back up and I think that is why I feel so much more awake and happy all the time.
Extra money would be awesome. I would probably use it to go on a vacation because I would love to go somewhere warm and sunny after all the rain we have been having here. Or…um…the real answer because this is what I do with all my “extra money” is that I would put it in my kids’ college funds. But that’s boring so lets go with the vacation answer.

lol I feel the same way about Disqus as I do about bloggers doing paid posts. I love that we’re on the same wavelength for our pet peeves!!
I really, fundamentally don’t understand the need that it’s serving. It uses threaded comments? So can wordpress. It’s easy to respond to your commenters? If you have them e-mailed to you, it’s just as easy. The real difference that I see is that it:
a) complicates your commenting (it’s like commenting on typepad blogs unless you sign in)
b) doesn’t require a refresh of your page to see your comment (they actually advertise that as a feature- who cares???)
c) is glitchy from time to time & keeps your comments in an external place instead of in your blog’s inner workings, so if you un-install it you lose your comments unless you use an elaborate export/import tool they offer.
Yea, sounds like a heck of an upside…

I’d go to Italy, no questions asked and stay in fancy hotels the entire time. Indulgent? Of course, but it’s what I’ve always wanted to do so if some extra money fell into my lap I wouldn’t feel guilty about it.
Grand Cayman. Color me jealous. I don’t suppose you have a suitcase that will fit me in it!? =)

I’d spring for some gorgeous boots with a price tag equalling a car payment. Then I’d put new floors in our house.
I know, floors should probably come before shoes, but the boots are totally worth it.

I want to go on a sunny vacation. If I EVER have extra money, that’s what I’m doing. But *sigh.* The life I used to lead left me in debt. And I will do ANYTHING IT TAKES to pay it off. I hate it.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:11 am
I do not like getting follow up emails about comments on a post unless it is directly from the author of the post. I just do not have time. I read waaaaaaay too many blogs!
I wasn’t going to post but now I think I will just do some bullets. ;-)
October 28th, 2009 at 9:13 am
I would use it to fund a trip to Scotland to visit one of my best friends, or buy some new furniture. Ahh extra money…
October 28th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Funny you mention this…I applied for an extension on my income taxes (because being a self-employed consultant makes them sort of crazy) and I found out I WAY overestimated my savings for what I would owe the government. That was a happy surprise.
But so far all I can think to do is to put the money back in savings for next year. :p
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Congrats lady on being asked to be on the two boards!!! That’s pretty awesome. :)
I would either put the money in my savings or plan a trip to go see friends I have out west.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:47 am
First of all, way to go lady on the Board of Directors offers! Fab! Keep us posted of course :)
Second, this Disqus thing you speak of I guess I’m lucky enough to never encounter it, but I know I would be irritated beyond belief if I received those emails or was bugged like that.
Third, the money part, I would replace all the interior doors and trim in the new house because right now it’s gag worthy.
October 28th, 2009 at 9:59 am
i’m another lucky non-disqus encounterer, i guess, although it sounds absolutely irritating.
this makes me want to go outside and get some sun AND take vitamin D…!
October 28th, 2009 at 10:01 am
this is my favorite thing to think about. we just were talking yesterday about this. i would still save money. i was in such a crummy money situation for so long, that having anything savings, feels AMAZING. i want to have money in the bank so that, in the future, if we decide to adopt, or not…that we can spend the money and not feel a pinch.
October 28th, 2009 at 11:11 am
OMG I think you know what I’d spend extra money on right now, since I’ve posted about this on my blog a million times. I think right now the number one priority would be new windows. And blinds. Urgh.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
You are going to LOVE Grand Cayman. Just got back from a trip last month and would go agian in a heartbeat. If at all possible you have GOT to swim with the stingrays! Truly amazing experience and worth every penny! Also, take a catamaran to Rum Point. Great drinks! Enjoy…..
October 28th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
I hate Disqus.
I would go to England and Scotland to visit friends if I had extra cash laying about. Ohhh that would be nice :)
October 28th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Awesome news on the Cayman cash! I love surprises like that.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
I just met with an new internist and she said I should be taking 1000 units of vitamin D a day!
October 28th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
im not a huge disquis fan either. i just don’t get it – signing in – authority number? it’s confusing.
October 28th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
I hate Disqus too and thanks for outing it as the annoyance it is.
This vitamin D stuff has me loving California even more. Sorry, it’s true. Though living in San Francisco, I’d probably need the supplement in the summer (our foggy season) if I didn’t swim regularly in an outdoor pool down on the sunny peninsula.
I would spend extra money on regular pedicures. They’re so tough for me to justify when I’m dancing this much and ruining them so quickly.
October 28th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Amen, I hate Disqus too. Most of the time I get so annoyed with it I just don’t end up commenting anyway.
Or I’ve found my comment gets lost in space somewhere.
October 28th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Oh and as for extra money, I would (and am) saving for a huge 5-week trip. So all my extra moolah goes thata-way and then I’ll spend it all totally frivolously (sp?) on vacation. Yahoo!
October 29th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Congrats on the Board of Directors thing! Awesome!
And, as someone who uses Disqus on their blog, it makes me feel bad that you (and probably others) think it’s a pain in the ass. Personally, it works for me, but I feel you on the numerous e-mails about so-and-so commenting on the post, as well.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Congrats on the Board nominations! That is very exciting.
Hmm. Extra money? I would take A. to Russia. We would start in Moscow, travel to Bakal Lake and into Mangolia and China, then take the Siberian Express back to Moscow/ St. Petersburg.
Yep. That is what I would do.
October 30th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
I also hate Disqus. Very annoying.
What an honor to be considered for two boards!!
