Busted! I’ve had my fair share of gripes about Facebook. I check it daily. And I can pretty much report daily on something else that breaks. If I didn’t place such a high priority on keeping in touch with friends, I’d ditch that application in no time flat. However, Shauna reminded me this week that just because we limit who can see our profile or information within our profile, we still are not immune to predators on Facebook. {source: Blah Blah Blog}

Angry! There are a few blogs I read that highlight bloggers of all types. It was through one of these blogs that I came across the post titled, The Incredibly Angry Black Woman. After my book club discussions last weekend, I was intrigued by this blogger’s take on race and stereotypes about race. What I found was a blogger who has a knack for writing. And sharing her point of view. And I might have learned something about a community where clearly I’m on the outside. Definitely worth your time, too. {source: The Black Snob}

Costume! Halloween really isn’t my thing. I think it’s cute to see kids dress up. But, find most adults use it as an excuse to dress like sluts, drink far too much and behave badly. Definitely not my thing. With that said, if you are of the Halloween sort and you’re still without a costume, check out New York’s Planned Parenthood suggestions for Pro-Choice costumes. Regardless of your beliefs, you’ve got to admit some of these costumes are pretty darn funny! {source: ‘NYC Unrated & Unfiltered}

That’s it for this week, y’all. No matter what your plans for Halloween night, don’t forget to change your clocks on Saturday night (fall back)! Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the flip side.

    One of the reasons I enjoy Friday so much (besides the obvious) if for Friday Replays. I always know that you’ll have some great sites. I’m not dressing up this year, but if I did, I would definitely go as one of the pro-life costumes. Instead of a big party this year, I am opting for a low key bonfire with friends out in the country. Have a great weekend!

  2. Nora Says:

    Little innocent Nora went to a costume party my freshman year in college and was greeted at the door by a giant human sized condom. I was laughing & shocked all at the same time.

    Good luck on Sunday! I’ll be thinking of you =)

    The ProChoice costumes are pretty funny. Nuva Ring is probably my favorite one!

    There’s been quite a few accounts hacked into on FB. I don’t think FB has done quite enough in countering such hackers or spammers and they have definitely not done enough in offering options for protecting one’s privacy. Like you, if I didn’t have actual friends on there I want to maintain contact with, I would shut down my account.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    I’m definitely NOT one of those people who use Halloween as an excuse to dress up slutty and drink too much. I like the creativity of it all. I like costumes and makeup in general. I think it’s a lot of fun. I also like things that are erie and scary and spooky. To me it’s like my Christmas.

    i hate hearing about crazy stuff like that on fb cuz i’m on there ALL THE TIME. *sigh* and i like to dress up for halloween BUT never in slutty stuff. totally not my thing. i DO like to party however and since those instances are few and far between now with 2 kids, i’m VERY excited about tomorrow night. Have a good one Nilsa!

  6. Jess Says:

    Those costume suggestions are pretty funny. I want to be a Nuva Ring! Or maybe an IUD.

  7. Mel Heth Says:

    Facebook has been annoying me too. I don’t like the updates they made recently. Thanks for posting instructions on there on how to adjust your live feed settings.

    I think my favorite Halloween costume suggestion on that list is the Rhythm Method. Hilarious!

    That ABW post was very interesting. I once asked an anti-Obama blogger why he disliked Michelle Obama so much (in my mind she wasn’t the candidate, so why bother? It’d be like me spending energy to dislike Mr. Sarah Palin) and got a response along those lines. As a white woman who grew up in an almost entirely white/Latino/Southeast Asian community, I took his comment as generally misogynistic (all strong, successful women who don’t defer to their husbands are angry bitches) and not racially charged. Who knows how it was meant, I stopped reading. But as I said, interesting.

    As for the halloween madness, I used to be bothered by the revealing costumes, but now I figure what the hell. It’s not such a bad thing to have one day a year where anything goes. It’s a release, like Carnivale. I’m sure I’ll still look demure compared to the 22-year-olds in pleather thongs, but I spend 364 days a year being uncomfortable with and trying to cover up my considerable rack, I might as well enjoy showing it off for one night.

  9. Artemisia Says:

    Hee! Those costume ideas are a hoot!

  10. princessB Says:

    I was never into the revealing costumes either, but now at 33, and with my figure intact I am going to wear a less than demure costume in an area where noone knows me anyway. I think it’s fun to dress up as something you aren’t for one night. That’s just me.

    Facebook has been a bit of an issue for me as well. I’d take it down but it does have it’s uses.

  11. Alice Says:

    HAAAAA the rhythm method!! god, i wish i’d thought of that one.. :-)

  12. Nichole M Says:

    Am I a prude if I think those costume ideas are a little too much?? (Fine, so be it.) Between those and the slutty ones, I think slutty ones are better. And I hate slutty ones. For the record, I’m dressing as a Victorian ghost lady. Yep. High collar, long sleeves, floor length gown. I refuse to be slutty!

  13. Jessica Says:

    I cannot believe we “fall back” already! The official end of seeing sunlight for months. Have a good weekend.

  14. Kristin Says:

    I do so love Halloween, but not because I love to get whored up. Ah ha. I almost forget Daylight Savings Time. I wonder if the dude will recognize and sleep an extra hour. Prob not. Darn toddlers.

  15. A Super Girl Says:

    Roe V. Wade…hilarious!

  16. the mama bird diaries Says:

    I do love Halloween b/c it’s just fun to dress up and be a kid again.
