Replay
Happy Friday the 13th, y’all. Good thing I’m not superstitious. Otherwise, I’d likely still be in bed today. Instead, you get Replay, where I review some of my favorite posts from the week!
No! Hannah wrote a post about learning to say No.It reminded me that in my 20’s, I was very much a yes woman. It was a time when I had the flexibility to say yes. I feared being left out. I wanted to explore what saying yes would mean, even if my inner self was screaming no. And then I hit my 30’s. When my personal responsibilities grew. And I knew more of what I wanted for myself. And I found my voice. And now? Now, saying “no” is one of the most empowering things I have in my personal arsenal. It really is liberating to say no to something you really don’t want to or don’t have the time to do. {source: Hannah, just breathe…}
Precious! Months ago, when I first saw a trailer for the movie, Precious, I told Sweets I wanted to see that movie. Not because there are a bunch of big names starring in the movie. Not because Oprah told me to go see. None of the above. I have always found deep respect and admiration of people’s stories where they overcome the seemingly insurmountable challenges life presents them. Yet, this week, I read a blog post sharing the point of view that movies like this are manipulative and exploitative and set certain communities back instead of pushing their causes forward. While I still very much want to see this movie, I think knowing these other perspectives will make me watch it with a more objective eye. {source: The Black Snob}
Waiting! This week, Erin wrote about relationships and how there needs to be more than just two people plus a little chemistry. She writes from personal experience. Towards the end of this post, she says something to the effect of people who more than click meet halfway. I think I’ve said it here before, but some very sage advice was given to Sweets and me before we got married related to meeting halfway. When you find the one, it’s not always about meeting halfway. Sometimes you have to be willing to go 110% in their direction. And there will be times with your mate will be expected to come 150% in your direction. Overall, the average might be 50%. But, if we always expect to be met halfway, we might be left waiting. {source: Poor Penmanship}
Logo! Every brand has a logo. The question is whether you can identify the logos without seeing the name of the company. It’s a fun little Friday diversion. Let me know how you do! (BTW, I got 30/36.) {source: How About Orange and Sporacle}
Alright, that’s it for this week. Hope y’all have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the flip side!

VERY interesting blog post on “Precious.” Wow. I feel like I’ll need to read it (and the reviews it cites) one or two more times for all of their points to really sink in. If you go see the movie sometime soon, though, I want to hear your thoughts on it!!

You know, I wanted to see Precious, but I’m not sure about it. I’m at this place in my life right now where I cannot handle anything that might be sad or have a “message.” I couldn’t even watch The Haunting in Connecticut because it’s too stressful.
I kind of suck right now, I guess.

I got 26 right. And several of the others were quite familiar and I definitely had the “duh!” moment when I saw the answer. Impressive.

The corporate logo games were fun (albeit sad that I knew so many)! Thanks for sharing.
