SoMi Speaks

Hi friends! It’s that time of the week when I redirect you to some of my favorite corners of the blogosphere. Enjoy!

Peace! Nora is one of those reflective bloggers who is always a pleasure to read. This week, she discussed what it means to find peace in your life. I echo many of her sentiments. But, for me, one of the big ones is this: Peace is learning to say no. Learning to delegate or delay, when necessary and possible, at work. Learning to turn down social plans. Learning to skip that volunteer opportunity. Learning to reschedule that family gathering. In the short term, there might be some disappointment. However, in the long run, the world is a better place when I’m at my best. {source: Walking with Nora}

Passion! Rebecca is a born-again blogger! In a previous life, I followed her anonymous blog. Now, I have her new blog to follow, where she explores something she’s always wanted to do: writing. She’s spent a lifetime trying to figure out her one passion. And while I think people don’t have to have just one passion or that people can be passionate (about life!) without having one particular passion, I do like where this blog post takes us. {source: Diary of a Virgin Novelist}

Want! One thing I can’t stand is when kids whine to their parents about what they want. Put a sock in it! ha. And really, if I’m truthful, I’ll tell you that I also don’t like listening to people whine about things they want, but don’t have. Because I just want to tell them to get off their bums and go get it. Or do it. Or make it happen. We are all empowered that way. However, Tabitha’s list of wants doesn’t have that whiny flair. Instead, I feel like it’s a precursor to something great. {source: Probably Tabitha}

Voice! I am certainly not as popular as a certain blogger over at LivIt, Luvit. And bloggers definitely don’t come running to me in a panic about their blogging identities. But, I do have a lot of young bloggers. Young in age. Young in experience regarding their blogging life. And so, I think many of you will enjoy, appreciate and learn from Livit, Luvit’s spot-on post about finding your blogging voice. {source: Livit, Luvit}

That’s all from around these parts. Have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all on the flip side!

    Thanks for the shout out, Nilsa! Even though I have been a bit afraid about putting my name and face out there with my writing, the rewards have been incredible! Blogging never felt like this before. Sure, there have been a few blows to my ego and my tummy hurts at times, but the highs -- my god the highs!

    Thanks for the shoutout. Always much appreciated.

    Tabitha’s post is great… I wanted to go to CA and hug her, then have tea while we talk about all that she wants =)

    Thanks for pointing me to a new blog to read too (I’ve not heard of Diary of a Virgin Novelist before). While the google reader is full if you recommend it, it must be good :)

    I’ve definitely been guilty of whining before I do or don’t take action. Then again I’ve told people to suck it up and get up and do something!

    Have a great weekend!

    I know the Want Whine very well. I had a discussion some years ago with my sister, who used to whine and blame our mother for her life not being productive… “Mom should have done this differently…” and on and on. I told her that she was a 50 year adult and her life was her own to make what she could. And it wasn’t that our mom didn’t provide enough rearing standards as we all grew up.

    On an even different level, I can’t stand people that whine about having nothing when it’s quite the opposite.. they have more than others, and in the case with my wife’s sister.. a LOT more. Yet, it’s bitch, bitch, bitch about almost everything. It wears you down. Which is probably why we drink a lot when we go over to their home. Ha!

    Aww, you’re too sweet! Thanks for the shout-out. I feel like being “around” you fabulous gals (you, Nora, LiLu, etc.) is always an encouragement to keep thinking, reflecting, and appreciating the little things in life. You inspire me! :-)

    I definitely agree about learning to say no to help find peace. That seems to be a lesson I haven’t yet really mastered and internalized.
