Replay is my weekly post where I capture some of the more interesting reads in the blogosphere.
Outnumbered! I am a lurker over at The Black Snob Feed. I think the author has an interesting take on many national events and how they affect certain populations. This week, she discusses the difficulty of dating in college and whether it should really matter at all. She addresses a New York Times article that focuses on UNC, where women dominate, and how woefully difficult it is to date there. When I went to UNC, it was 60% female. And you know what? There was PLENTY of choice. Seriously, women. Get used to it. Because if it’s not in college where the numbers work against you, then it’s in life where women tend to outlive men anyway. {source: New York Times, Black Snob Feed}
Type! We all now know my feelings towards Valentine’s Day. That said, Lisa writes a great piece related to this weekend. She writes about how her future partner will make her feel. For me, Sweets makes me feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be and with the person I’m supposed to be with. He feels like home to me. {source: Lisa’s Yarns}
Sculptures! Let’s face it, between the Midwest, the Middle Atlantic and the Northeast, there’s been a clusterfuck of snow since last weekend. It’s mother nature’s gift that keeps on giving. Actually, I think this is payback for President Obama – I’m pretty sure last year around this time, he made some snarky comments about Washington DC and snow and how only a little snow shuts down the city. Apparently LOTS of snow also shuts down the city. But, here in Chicago? We seem to do more constructive things in the snow and with the snow, like build snow sculptures. You won’t be disappointed when you see what lines some of our city streets. {source: Assignment Chicago}
Buzz! This week, Facebook rolled out a new layout (once again, I just don’t get why people are whining over the change – it’s just a slight variation of what was there before) and Google rolled out its new social media outlet called Buzz. Buzz shows up on the same page as your email. The Buzz link is just below the Inbox link and like the Inbox, it goes bold with a number next to it when people you follow add things to their Buzz (think of it like a status update for Facebook or a Tweet). It confuses the heck out of me, because I look at it and think I have an email, only to realize someone just added an update. Boo. I spent about 10 minutes searching around Google and finally figured out a way to turn off Buzz (I’m sure many of you will liken this to a buzz kill – what fun am I?!). And to be honest, I couldn’t be happier. This attempt by Google makes me think of Microsoft … too little, too late and everyone hates you for it … I sure hope Google doesn’t become the next Microsoft. {source: Google Buzz}
Boots! Around Chicago, people talk about their cars getting booted (when people don’t pay their parking tickets) and buying winter boots to keep our tootsies warm during the many cold months of winter. But, today, I’m here to satisfy an ongoing request from a friend. You see, she’s been begging me to share a photo of SoMi in her winter coat and boots. Now, before you go laughing at my nonsense, believe me when I say, I never in a million years imagined I’d be playing dress-up with my dog. Sweets and I were pretty adamant about that when we first got her. That is, until we saw her shiver in the cold. We collapsed and bought a coat (no more shivers). The next winter, SoMi would limp and eventually sit down. She’d hold up her paws, sometimes multiple paws at once. The brutal use of salt tears her apart (and almost brings me to tears). Thus, the $60 dog boots. Don’t laugh. They work. And she’s a happy camper.
Well, that’s all from here. Hope y’all have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the flip side.

OMG, SoMi is soooo adorable!! She looks so cute in the boots. I have been thinking about getting some for Chico because he dances from one foot to the other when it’s cold. While entertaining to watch, it’s obviously uncomfortable for him.

Awwww. What adorable pictures of Somi!!!

SoMi is so freakin’ adorable. glad it works & she’s warm/without pain. Dogs can be such delicate creatures, can’t they?

SoMi is adorable in her winter coat and boots, I’m glad that she can enjoy her winter walks without tearing up her paws.
Holy crap those snow sculptures must be something to see. Such talent.
Have a great weekend Nilsa!

I heart Somi’s boots!!!

I am a long time lurker…I don’t have a blog of my own so I seldom comment on things…but I have to say I love SoMi’s boots…I have greyhounds and due to their “build” they have to wear coats and boots as well…only I don’t have boots like that for them…where in the world did you find those boots? I try to dress them in more “serious” dog attire so I don’t seem to be one of those dress up my dog people as well…
Those boots are perfect!

So adorable!
I swore I would never be the “dog sweater lady” but it gets so cold that Maya gets cold and it just seems mean to not let her have a coat. I wouldn’t send my kids out in the winter without one so why would I let my dog?

Cute and tosty Somi!
Rosie also wears a coat (on top of a hoodie that she wears 24/7. She likes to be warm so the jacket helps her stay dry and warm when she races in the snow.
We do have boots for her but getting them on her is challenging. The trainer suggested socks to start training her but even baby socks are too big.

You wrote something or other and I don’t remember anymore because I saw pictures of SoMi and I melted. SHE’S SO ADORABLE!

My sister has a greyhound and he’s so shivery it makes me sad! But his need for a coat goes beyond warmth. He looks just like a deer and they live in the woods. So bright orange coat for him it is!

i would never make fun of a person who dresses their dog for function. she is adorable

I am DYING over the photo. But! You’re right, it’s purely utilitarian. Montana doesn’t exhibit either of those behaviors and I almost wish she did just so we could take hilarious photos of her in winter garb.

We’ve already chatted about Google Buzz, but for now, it’s working for me. There are some things I wish it did, like integrate into blogs more, but given time, we’ll see how it does. I’ve mostly given up on Google Wave, which I had more hopes for.
Somi looks very nice in the coat and feet booties. The booties is a must for dogs in cold, icy conditions.

Somi looks like quite dashing in her winter gear.

Seeing a dog wearing boots is one thing guaranteed to always bring a smile to my face. They look so funny.
February 12th, 2010 at 2:51 pm
Facebook just seems tidier to me. What will happen if the colors ever change?? The world might come to an end.
I love the snow boots! So freaking adorable. :)
February 12th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
SoMi is so cute!! And the boots totally make the outfit.
February 12th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
SoMi looks adorable and I humbly request that you post pictures of her (wearing boots or not) more often.
Personally, I love the new Facebook layout, but I have a friend who had a lot to do with it, so I’m biased. It puts everything in the right place for me.

i want to be a buzz kill too, i have no idea what its purpose is…lame. I don’t know why everyone is moanin about the “new” facebook, looks pretty much the same to me. Aww SoMi’s boots are so cute, it’s smart to have her wear those in the snow!
February 12th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Thanks for the shout out!! :)
I’m with you on the buzz kill. I was so confused by it. It’s useless.
SoMi’s boots = adorable! Totally made me smile to see that!!
February 13th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
Awwww… Somi is so cute with her boots. Figaro never keeps his own. He immediately pulls them off with his teeth. If I manage to get him out of the house before he does that, he walks around like there are needles under his feet.
February 14th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
i would absolutely do the same thing for my dog if we lived somewhere with lots of harmful stuff on the ground (like salt…grr). J and i are looking into hiking around the mountains down here in AZ, so i’m sure we’ll look into booties of some sort when we take Tuesday with us.
February 14th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
I LOVE SoMi’s outfit. The boots are such a good idea given the salt and rough terrain on the sidewalks. So cute!
February 15th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
I love the dog booties! I use them on my pups every now and then, too. If you are in a pinch don’t have booties, toddler socks work okay, too.
Glad for the happy feet.

Nilsa I have just been playing catch up and you have no idea how happy this picture made me! I have been dying to see it as well. That has to be the most adorable thing ever. It is clear how much you love your puppy! :)
