It’s Friday, kids, and you know what that means? It’s my time of the week to redirect you to other places in the interwebs.

Thanks! This year, I decided to participate in Ashley’s secret Valentine exchange. Not only did I get to send a little something to one of my favorite bloggers, but I also received a wonderfully thoughtful gift from a new-to-me blogger. When I opened my gift, it was clear to me that Vanessa spent some time reading my blog and getting to know me. So touching! But, that’s not all! Then, Lys sent me a box of cookies, mint chocolate cookies, which are freaking awesome. And well, ladies, thank you for making me feel so loved.

Memories! Whenever there is a break-up (between friends, lovers, a company and an employee), our human tendencies tend to focus on the spoiled ending. She disappeared for no reason. He broke my heart. They ruthlessly fired me. While that’s ok initially, the reality is the break-up still exists. And when there’s nothing more to do about the situation, why not focus on all the good times. She filled my childhood with so many precious memories. He makes me realize I deserve more in my next relationship. The experience from that job enabled me to land an even better job this time. Mandy has experienced a recent parting of ways and was just reminded of all the special memories shared with her friend. {source: Knowing the Difference}

Balance! Many of you know how I feel about balance in my life – it’s a must. And that includes the role social media plays in my life. In order to maintain some semblance in my life, I only check Facebook a few times a week and I don’t have a Twitter account.  (Though, truth be told, I think my life would experience quite a void without this here blog and many of you, whom I have connected with through blogging.) That said, I’m quite certain that balance won’t work for other people, some who must update Twitter 30 times a day, stay online on Facebook 24/7 and be available for Gchats into the wee hours of the night. Regardless of your preference, the key is finding your own personal balance. Amy writes a nice list of ways in which some might be able to achieve that balance. {source: Just a Titch}

Ugly! You ain’t got no alibi you ugly. Eh! hey! You ugly! Snappy tune that’s hard to get out of your head, but not the point of this post. I was lucky enough to meet Alexa a few summers ago. Her personality? It’s big. Really big. Her blog? It’s also big. A big Cleveland blog. And yet, in one week, she writes two posts about ugly things in her fine city. This girl is funny. And if you don’t like her humor, you should read her blog anyway, because she always shows photos of her beautiful friends. Oh and she also blogs this week about a spending freeze, which hits close to home for me (she was featured on the local news, so you should check that one out, too!).{source: Cleveland’s A Plum Ugly Car; Cleveland’s A Plum Ugly Furniture, Cleveland’s A Plum Spending Freeze}

Race! Born in St. Louis. Spent a couple childhood years in California. Spent many more childhood years outside of Boston. Went to college in North Carolina. And have spent my entire adulthood in Chicago. And you know what? Racism is everywhere. This isn’t a Southern issue, though it might be more obvious there. I have seen it’s ugly face follow me all over the country. Nic writes a thoughtful post about how racism has affected her friends and the choices they’ve made in their dating lives. It’s worth reading. Especially if it gets you thinking about how you lead your own life. {source: Nic Narrates}

Color! What’s a Friday without some fun things to do? So I end this post with a fun quiz and then a fun giveaway. First, the quiz. Ever wondered what color you are? No, I don’t mean what colors look good on you. But, what color represents your personality? Take the short and very unscientific quiz to find out. Oh and in case you’re wondering, my color is red: You boast incredible willpower and are capable of overcoming obstacles that would normally leave others shaking in their boots. You have a penchant for colorful environments and often impress others with your energetic bursts of energy. Your interests in many areas of life often leave you scattered, but when you focus you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. {source: True Value Color Quiz}

Giveaway! It’s Friday. And what better way to celebrate the weekend than to enter a great giveaway for a cute necklace. So, be sure to go to Kim’s blog and visit Tarma’s Designs in order to enter the giveaway. And, oh yeah, don’t tell me I never give you anything! =) {source: ilaxStudio, Tarma Designs}

Well, that’s all from here. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the flip side!

    Thanks for all of the linky dinks today…I especially love the “Memories!” one. :)

  2. kilax Says:

    Thanks for the link.

    I am really getting further and further away from facebook. Something about it… just irks me. But, like you, I love blogging and interacting with other bloggers. I was thinking about joking about giving up blogging for “Lent” but whoa. What would I do on the train? ;)

    I really love Amy’s post!

  3. sarah Says:

    Gray! Open-minded is the perfect way to describe you. In fact, people often marvel at your ability to try new things. Gentle, relaxed and self-assured, Gray people have the valuable ability to be everyone’s friend. Touting an eye for the aesthetic, your skill for working well with others often leaves others feeling jealous.

  4. mandy Says:

    I know I basically repeat myself every Friday, but I always enjoy your replays. I especially enjoyed the race one– what a well written blog. I’m pretty sure 1/4 of the blogs in my reader came from your replays.

    My color was black: Nothing can stand between you and your demand for a calm environment. To be free of conflict and disagreement is the only way to live. In fact, it’s this philosophy that probably allows you to be comfortable in conditions that would normally bother others. Your ability to focus is undisputed, and while you enjoy attention, you still have problems understanding how to handle it. No other color out lives by the golden rule as much as you do.

  5. brookem Says:

    happy friday!
    my color is black too, like mandy!
    i’ve been meaning to check out alexa’s videos from this week!
    you’ve linked to what seems like some really interesting posts this week. on my way to check them out now!

  6. Nora Says:

    Ah, facebook. I’m *thisclose* to deactivating it for good. For some reason it just totally annoys me, much like myspace did years and years ago. My balance with social media is constantly changing; kind of depends on where I am in life.

    Also, totally jealous you received mint chocolate cookies! Those sound divine.

    Happy Friday!

  7. k8 Says:

    I’m yellow. And it must have SOME sort of science in it because every time I’ve taken a color quiz, I’m always yellow.

  8. nic Says:

    Nilsa! Thanks for the link! You always choose such great posts to include in your replays that I feel honored to be included. :)

    I love the color quiz too! I’m going to go take it now because years ago a coworker told me I was “a yellow” and I want to see if that’s the case and what that means.

    Have a fancy weekend! It’s sunny! Hooray!

  9. Mary Poppins in Heels Says:

    Wow, thanks for all of the great reading! I’m off to check it out…

    Have a great weekend, Nilsa.

  10. Amy --- Just A Titch Says:

    Thanks SO MUCH for the love! I’m honored :)

    Also, like so many above me, my color is black…I suppose it’s not surprising, then, that black comprises at least HALF of my wardrobe :)

  11. hillary Says:

    I’m red too!
    Have a great weekend :)

  12. Ally Says:

    Mandy’s post was great. Have a lovely weekend, Nilsa :)

  13. Rebecca @ Diary of a Virgin Novelist Says:

    Thanks for the links. I love these Friday posts. I will check them out over the weekend.

  14. Christyn Says:

    I took the color test, and was originally surprised when it told me I was RED. Then I read (haha, red) the description and saw that it fit. AND then I remembered that my whole wedding and now the interior of my house is red. Sometimes it takes an outsider looking in to tell you what they see when you can see it yourself!!

    Hope you have a great weekend! I am sending your necklace in the mail tomorrow :)

    RED: You boast incredible willpower and are capable of overcoming obstacles that would normally leave others shaking in their boots [see: Texas]. You have a penchant for colorful environments and often impress others with your energetic bursts of energy [see: my blog]. Your interests in many areas of life often leave you scattered, but when you focus you can accomplish anything you put your mind to [see: going back to school - again].

  15. radioactive tori Says:

    I am red. What a fun quiz! I may have my kids take it when they get home from school.

  16. Kristin Says:

    Happy Friday lady! What is this thing you speak of called balance? Ah ha ha

  17. Lisa Says:

    True Value said my color is black! “Nothing can stand between you and your demand for a calm environment. To be free of conflict and disagreement is the only way to live. In fact, it’s this philosophy that probably allows you to be comfortable in conditions that would normally bother others. Your ability to focus is undisputed, and while you enjoy attention, you still have problems understanding how to handle it. No other color out lives by the golden rule as much as you do.”

    I don’t really argue, it’s what I’m drawn to for clothing and the description was pretty accurate, but I can’t paint a room black!

    I’m still working on the whole balance thing. Life had definitely tipped heavily in the online direction and I’m working to balance it back out again. Same can be said for balancing work and other activities. I’m trying to pull my focus back to working to live and not living to work.

  18. HotchPotchery Says:

    GRAY??? I’m gray?!? I broke my self-imposed blog-free month to find out I am gray?!?

  19. Busty Satan Says:

    I love Friday Replays! You get me reading so many new blogs.

    I think balance is what I strive for with regards to almost everything – fashion, work, technology, health. It is THE key element for me.

  20. Stef Says:

    great links! such a variety…from race to giveaways!

  21. Jessica Says:

    I loved the blog valentine program. Such a great idea and such a fun time to pick out fun stuff. So glad you took part!

  22. Emily Jane Says:

    Thanks for sharing all the links! I’m going to have to start checking out Alexa’s blog, it sounds too fun :)

  23. Lys Says:

    i think these are some of my favorite posts of the week :) i love reading your replays and getting to explore other blogs and learn about other people

  24. Lisa from Lisa's Yarns Says:

    I did that color quiz last week & will be posting my results later this week (yellow was my color which was fairly accurate).

    Lots of great posts featured! I also loved Mandy’s reflection on her friendship that had ended.
