Nothing
This weekend? It was mostly low-key.
Friday night, Sweets and I did very little. We picked up a hand saw from a friend, so Sweets could finish our tiling project this weekend. Picked up a pizza. And came home. We had heard good things about Apart pizza and I really wanted to like it, since I’m a huge fan of thin-crust pizza. But I think Sweets summed it up best when he said it would be perfect if it were 2AM and we were trashed. Unfortunately, the grease factor was high. Too high for our liking. We continue to insist Aroma has the best pizza in our hood.
Saturday morning, we woke up early, so we could take the dog we’d been sitting for the past week out to the suburbs. When we got home, Sweets proceeded to finish our fireplace (photos of the completed project to come soon) and I went grocery shopping.
Saturday night, was a bit of musical chairs. One neighbor gave Sweets tickets to the Bulls game, so he went with a friend. SoMi went to hang out with another neighbor (and their dogs). And then most of the girls in the building gathered in yet another neighbor’s place for a girls’ night in. I made salsa (it’s my new pastime). Someone else made turkey chili. And yet someone else made chocolate muffins. It was fun to catch up with the women I see in passing on a daily basis!
Sunday, Sweets and I gathered with some of our close friends for lunch. Homemade chicken pot pie. Delicious. A chance to catch up with friends I see less and less. Priceless. We took the train to this friend’s condo. And while I love the convenience of the train, I’ve got to say, it’s NOT a time saver. It took us MUCH longer to get there and back than it would had we driven. And we didn’t even need to change trains. Sigh. Stupid CTA and their ongoing, never-ending monetary crisis.
Sunday night, we watched the US hockey team kick some Canadian butt. I was kind of surprised the US team did so well, considering there is always lots of hype about Canada and hockey. Oh and we also watched curling. We’re fascinated by that event. Sweets was so fascinated, he looked up curling clubs in the Chicago area. Turns out, one of them is right around the corner from where I work! Though, at $1,000 a year for membership dues, I’m pretty sure Sweets will not be picking it up as a hobby.
So, there you have our weekend. Though, apparently it wasn’t low-key enough. Because today? I’m tired. Boo.
What was a highlight from your weekend?

Your weekend sounds lovely! I adore low key weekends just kicking back, relaxing, spending time with friends, and eating pizza (I’m not a fan of too greasy pizza either). I had a pretty low key weekend too that including catching up with a few long-distance friends via phone, spending the majority of Saturday with my 13 year old cousin, lounging around reading, and baking bread. Monday came too early. I can’t wait to see pictures of the fireplace!

Highlight of my weekend!? Watching ice dancing on Friday night (I know, totally cheesy but I love it.) Falling in love with Aksel Svindal (skiier from Norway). Venturing to a used bookstore on Saturday. Oh, and getting my voice (mostly) back and feeling about 30% better. A few more recovery days and I’ll be all better!

We had a lovely lazy Saturday with some errands in the afternoon. Yesterday , we bundled up took our fancy camera and spent the afternoon at the Lincoln Park Zoo. We had such a good time.

ha, i like that you, sweets, and somi had plans with friends on saturday night!
the hockey was such a good game! did you know that i didn’t even realize that if a player plays for a US team normally, that doesn’t mean the would be on the US hockey team? (maybe everyone already knows this, and this is just me, showcasing my niavete!)
anyway, i had a fairly low key weekend too. the highlight? might have been finding out that im getting a pretty penny back in taxes which i NEEEED so bad right now.

A girls in the building night? That sounds amazing!
The highlight of my weekend was two fold: I made a last push in school so I’m now totally finished until September (WOO!) and I went to a local bloggers meet up where everyone was really, amazingly nice. Both have me really excited for the summer.

Curling was a highlight from our weekend too. I’d never seen it and had no clue what it was about. I think the draw of it is that it is the sport that people can see themselves doing realistically and not having to be an “athlete” to do.

Sounds like a good weekend. Between worrying about cats and picking up cats, I did a lot of lounging around with Mr. Darcy and we attended a blogger meet up (That I planned because I am a glutton for punishment). Overall a good weekend, especially since my pets are home.

A thousand dollars! This is the problem with winter sports--they’re EXPENSIVE. Yikes!

Sounds like a fun weekend! Highlights from mine included getting together with friends that we don’t see often enough and checking out the Shepard Fairey exhibit that just went up on Friday.

Have you guys been to Franny’s on Flatbush during any of your Brooklyn visits? You absolutely must try it next time you are here. It is even in Prospect Heights.

The girls in the building night does sound very nice. I enjoy that you detail your weekend on most mondays.

I love the idea of a girls-in-the building night—maybe it’d lead me to like my upstairs neighbor more :) Your weekend sounds great, but I’m with you—I’m tired already from mine :)

Since riding the TRAX light rail we have here in Salt Lake, the only time it saves time is if we are going downtown during an event (Jazz NBA game, concert) and parking is more expensive than the cost to ride TRAX and it saves us from having to park a ways down the road and walk the distance (in the winter time, it can get extra cold -- even walking a few blocks).

Mmmmm salsa. How about those crazy pants the curling guys were wearing? I can’t remember which country…I just saw a snippet on the Today Show.
My weekend included a Shutter Island screening, a night out at an Irish bar where the waitresses wear Catholic schoolgirl outfits, and several hours of helping Mr. W clean and organize his room. That task is never(ever)ending.. :)

so funny how the olympics has turned tons of my friends onto curling as well! such a random sport. pizza taste testing sounds like a fun way to spend a night, now you can be certain that aroma’s reigns in your area. you make your own salsa? how badass.

i went down to williamsburg to visit my alma mater! well, really to visit my lovely friend who lives there now w/her husband and son, but it was still fun to be back on campus and drinking like we were still undergrads. although SURPRISE, turns out i cannot still drink like an undergrad and be expected to function the next day.

Holy curling, that is an expensive membership!
My weekend highlights were watching the Olympics, cooking, spending time with my husband… oh who am I kidding? I found out we are getting a big fat tax return!! That is what made the weekend. Money.

Sounds more busy than it does low-key!
Highlight of my weekend? All the JUNK I ate: Friday Taco Bell, Saturday Pizza, Sunday Sonic milkshake. Resorting to apples and carrot sticks for the rest of the week -- but only to prepare for next week ;)
I jest. Sort of.

My grandmother-in-law’s face when we threw her a surprise party for her 87th birthday!

Sounds like a fun weekend! I hear you on public transportation not being faster. I take the bus to & from work every day. It’s probably slightly faster on the way home, but it def takes longer to get there than it would if I just drove. So annoying, but it keeps me from driving which is good because I am usually so sleepy in the am, it would not be surprising if I fell asleep while driving! eeks!

i love how your building has turned into such a fun friend mine for you and sweets! it’s cool!
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:24 am
I LOVE thin crust pizza :-)
I have to say, as a Canadian, I was NOT excited about the game on Sunday night :P Luckily I was on a plane and had to miss it which was probably a good thing as I think it would have had my blood pressure rising!

I do not want to talk about the hockey game. Or the tequila I drank to ease the pain of the hockey game. Or the hangover I suffered through yesterday. I just want to sleep.
