Carrie! I wasn’t much of a Sex and the City fan, but I know many of you were (and still are). That’s why you pretty much have to read this recommendation. The writer argues that if SATC had been written a decade later, Carrie would be a blogger. And many of her life mottos would still hold true! Even this non-SATC gal can appreciate the connections. {source: copyblogger}
Pissed! The hot topic of public restrooms seems to surface from time to time. I wrote about it a couple years ago. One of the public restrooms on my floor at work has a terrible reputation for being dirty. I go out of my way to walk to a different restroom on the other side of the floor, just so I can be assured it will be clean. And the people using it will respect it’s a shared space. This week, Sparkling Red talks about the extremes some people will go through in order to protect their public space (irony intended). {source: No More Casual Nonchalance}
Gossip! I’ve written here before regarding the lessons I learned about writing my own story versus writing other people’s stories. Last week, Rebecca contemplated the lines drawn between gossip and storytelling. And more recently, she pondered aloud whether it’s OK to tell your children’s story. Or whether it’s OK for teenagers to tell their own story (as in, do they really understand the consequences of their actions). Regardless of whether you have children or not, this series of posts should get you thinking about your own approach to writing. {source: Diary of a Virgin Novelist – Gossip, Diary of a Virgin Novelist – Children}
Unsilenced! Many months ago, I stumbled upon the Violence Unsilenced blog. Each week, they post first-hand experiences of women (and some men) who were victims of domestic violence. Given my volunteer work in that arena, I find these stories amazingly courageous, sad and yet full of hope. Not too long ago, the blog passed their one-year anniversary milestone and celebrated through a video. It’s a compelling video for an amazing website. {source: Violence Unsilenced}
Bingo! I can’t leave you without something fun for the week. There’s all sorts of anticipation for the Oscars this year (March 7th – save the date!). Will the best picture follow the Golden Globes and go to Avatar? Will it follow the Bafta’s and go to The Hurt Locker? Will you be hosting an Academy Award party? If so, read up. The best parties come with games. And what better game than Oscars Bingo!? Print out the bingo cards and play away! {source: How About Orange: Jessica Jones Design}
Fired! I’ve been talking about re-tiling our fireplace for what seems like forever! Well, guess what? It’s finally done. Minus a quick paint job on the inside (I think it’ll be a natural oat color), the tiling portion is complete. I helped by, errr, bitching to encouraging Sweets to do his thing. Otherwise, I tried to stay out of the way. He did destruction of the old tiling by himself, was aided by our neighbor with building the new cement-board foundation and finished up the tiling on his own. I’m proud – he did such a good job!

Well, that’s more than enough from here. Have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all on the flip side!

I’ve recently started watching Sex and the City, and I’m amazed at how much some of my friends are like them. I don’t know whether it’s on purpose, or it’s just how life goes, but I’m starting to enjoy seeing the similarities :D
I refuse to use public toilets, I just can’t bring myself to do it! I’ve gone hours holding it in and having my bladder hate me for all eternity, but I just can’t sit on that toilet seat haha!
I just stopped over at Violence UnSilenced -- wow. It’s very thoughtful, and inspirational from the video itself right down to the little button on the sidebar that let’s you make a quick escape. They should be very proud of what they’re doing!
Oooh, the new fireplace is lovely -- it looks very classic :)

Confession — I have never seen a single episode of Sex in the City, ever. I can’t wait to check out some of these other blogs, espeically the bathroom one. I have issues with public bathrooms. I also realized that I will be out of town next Sunday and likely miss the red carpet events (which I fins so much more enjoyable then the actual show) for the oscars. I am not ok with that. Le sigh. I hope you are able to curl up with a blanket, SoMi, and a book by your beautiful new fireplace this weekend! Sweets did a great job on it!

Loving the fireplace! Well done, Sweets!

I love these pictures of Sweets working so hard. I love when guys do guy things. I find it so cute and adorable even though I know they are being all manly.
And thanks for the shout outs! I have been slammed with work so I haven’t been able to digest all the AWESOME comments and perhaps formulate a response.

The tile looks fantastic! Sometimes husbands just need a little nudge to get their true handyman selves to come out ;)
Happy weekend!

Nice! I like the more rustic style.

I was watching SATC reruns recently and wondered if Carrie would be writing a column today. I didn’t think of it so much like the “lessons” of SATC can apply to blogging, but more like she wouldn’t be a big deal because there would be a million bloggers out there writing the same thing!
The tile looks fabulous! Perfect for a fireplace.

i’m glad you posted about this not showing up in readers. good one! i didn’t know you worked as a volunteer in that area, you must have done some great stuff for people in a horrible situation. such an important topic. the public bathrooms one, i’m not sure if i should read it for fear that it’ll skeeve me out and i won’t be able to use them anymore haha. and carrie would DEFINITELY have been a blogger…i propose she takes that on in the movie sequel coming out!

I was intrigued by the Sex and the City post until I saw it was a copywriting blog. Eek! I’m a copywriter and the last thing I want to do is read about coptwriting. :) So I clicked back over here and continued reading your post. Violence Unsilenced sounds fascinating but I’ll have to be in the right mindset for that, I think.
Congrats again on the fireplace!

The fireplace looks amazing! And the thought of Carrie being a blogger makes me kind of happy. I mean, that’s awesome.

Surely I didn’t see…not much of a SATC fan. Blasphemy!! Ah ha ha. And the lessons that can be derived from one of the greatest shows EVER will always hold true! That fireplace turned out soooooo gorgeous!
March 1st, 2010 at 11:40 am
i agree with that…carrie would have been a blogger if it was now and not 1998 when the show first aired. good thought….love the new fireplace!
March 1st, 2010 at 4:02 pm
i love your fireplace! the colours are so…warm and naturey :)
March 1st, 2010 at 10:11 pm

March 1st, 2010 at 11:23 pm
oh you did GOOD on your fireplace!!! i’m still pretty much obsessed with your whole condo.
March 2nd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Your fireplace looks awesome!! Mine could use some TLC… It’s pretty drab. Better than not having a fireplace at all, but could use some work.
Carrie would definitely be a blogger. I adore her. Err, the writers that came up with some of her great lines. One of my favorites is: “why are we shoulding all over ourselves”.
