Y’all, need I remind you that I’m spending all of next week at the beach??? With ZERO plans to be on the internet and ZERO TIMES INFINITY plans to blog? Of course, this past weekend was crazy, trying to run errands and tie up loose ends related to leaving in a few days. And you know what else was crazy?
I was worried about this blog.
Seriously. I thought about what I should do with this space while I’m gone. I had a few options circling in my head. I could ask some treasured friends to guest blog. I could prepare posts ahead of time to be published while I’m away. I could give the blog a little vacation, too.
None of those sounded good to me. Not that I don’t love a bunch of you. But, to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of guest posts. And I could give you an earful why. But, not today. Ok? And the other ideas? Meh.
When I went back to the drawing board, a contest idea popped into my head.
Because a contest? It involves all of you! And prizes to boot. And to me, that’s the epitome of blogging. To be inclusive, not exclusive. And so, I decided to transform this idea into a goofy caption contest. Yes, that’s right.
Welcome to SoMi Speaks’ Goofy Caption Contest 2010
Below you will find five photos. Five photos for the five days I won’t be blogging. Meaning, one photo will be posted each day. Your job? To come up with a caption for any or all of the photos. And the winners get a prize!
Easy, right?
OK, so maybe you need a little more guidance than that. Humor me as I translate easy into a few simple steps:
- For each photo, come up with a caption (or multiple captions should you choose) that best describes that photo. Think HUMOR. If you can’t think of a caption for a particular photo, skip it. You can enter for whatever photos strike you as funny.
- Email me your caption entries. You can contact me at somispeaks [at] yahoo [dot] com. I closed comments to this post, because I want the entries to be a surprise for everyone next week!
- Emailed entries must be received no later than Thursday, March 25 at 11:59PM CDT.
- In the email, include your screen name (especially if you don’t want me revealing your real name on my blog).
- Also include your blog URL (I like to think I know who most of you are, but I’m not promising I’m going to be sane this week – anything goes).
- Oh and before each caption, write the photograph number it relates to — the last thing you want me doing this week is trying to match up your captions with photos. Trust me on that one.
- Remember, the emphasis is humor
Did I mention prizes?
Yes, that right, there will be prizes for the best captions.
I can’t tell you what those prizes will be, because you will be voting for the winners while I’m away. And the prizes? I hope to purchase them during my vacation (an extra incentive to enter!). Winners will be announced the week of my return!
