SoMi Speaks

Memorial

Around these parts, it was a holiday weekend. A weekend where we’re supposed to remember the soldiers who have kept our country safe and full of freedoms. What better way to start off the holiday weekend than to leave work a little early on Friday – you know, to really make use of the extra long weekend!

Friday afternoon, I met a childhood friend from St. Louis. She secured special tickets to see the Cardinals play the Cubs. Special tickets because the buildings surrounding the local ballpark have worked out a deal where they’ve built extensive rooftops where spectators can watch the game (live, not on TV). Tickets are stupid expensive, because they offer an all you can eat, all you can drink experience. So, I met my friend and Sweets met up with us a bit later for a great afternoon. It was sunny and in the high 70s and my favorite team, the Cardinals, trounced the hometown team 7-1. Happy me.

Saturday, Sweets went for his first long cycling ride of the season and I took SoMi for an extra long walk. Then, we headed out to the suburbs to spend the day with Sweets’ family. A long walk in the leash-free park with the dogs followed up by a late afternoon birthday celebration. Again, a beautiful day, albeit a helluva lot warmer in the suburbs than it was in the city. We returned to the city, went to our neighbor’s place and watched the Blackhawks win their first Stanley Cup Finals game against the Flyers. Good times.

Sunday, Sweets’ parents were in the city for Bike the Drive … a cycling event where the city closes off a major thoroughfare along the lake so cyclists can take over. They do this ride every year. After they were done, Sweets and I biked to a relatively new breakfast spot to meet them for a hearty late-morning meal. Afterward, we biked over to a local fabric shop, so I could pick out some fabric to make a sundress in a class later this week. Sunday afternoon, I might have joined a friend for some retail therapy – she needed it, not me. Ahem. =)

And finally, there was the holiday Monday, another day off work. Thunderstorms were supposed to roll through around midday, so Sweets and I took SoMi on a long, morning walk. When we got home, he went to work finishing up the grouting for our backsplash (before & after photos soon!) and I spent some time with my aunt. I came home to do lots of laundry and finished out the weekend relaxing with my honey.

This weekend was pretty darn close to perfect. Did you do anything to make your weekend particularly great?

Bike the Drive sounds so fun! I would love to do something like that someday (when I have a nicer bike and am better at biking!).

Did you end up skipping the race? Some friends ran it and told me it was nice and cool, but I told them how hot it was in the suburbs. It is that breeze off the lake!

My weekend was particularly blah ;) I got home from DC on Friday and we left for Iowa on Saturday for an unplanned trip that bratty Kim did not want to go on. Yeah. I need to work on being less of a brat!

What a relaxing weekend. I have to say, that would be a fabulous way to take in a ball game (and I’m not even that big of a baseball fan).

It was ridiculously hot here as well. I spent the weekend by taking Friday off, going to Amish country, watching my grandpap walk a 20K, going to an afternoon/evening concert with some friends, and spending time with other friends and family. I still feel like I need a nap.

    Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

We had a really nice weekend too. We went for a long bike ride and just spent a lot of time together. It was nice since it rarely happens that all of us are home at the same time.

I can’t wait to see your dress. How awesome that you will be able to make that!

I spent Sunday in the Red Hook part of Brooklyn. I just love that area. The waterfront reminds me every so slightly of San Francisco and the community down there is beyond friendly. Add in the best pulled port I’ve ever had (at Brooklyn Icehouse) and yeah, it was a pretty perfect day.

lots of moving this weekend- literally. ran a half marathon, moved manfriend in, moved my stuff all around to make room for him, etc. it was good… not too relaxing, but good!

I escaped civilization to go camping this weekend. It was perfect…until we were woken up by thunderstorms on Monday morning and had to scramble to get all our wet gear in the car. Now I have a tent set up in my living room so it can dry out before I return it to the owner.

Sounds like a fabulous weekend! I did a little retail therapy myself and bought a couple of cute summer dresses at Target. Then I made a quinoa summer salad which = comfort food for me. :) I adore quinoa.

It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! Mine wasn’t a long weekend but it was mostly spent moping up the basement & baking, and being thrilled to pieces to be home.
