Replay
For such a short work week, it sure did feel long. I was busy at work, trying to cram 5 days of deliverables into four. I was busy at home, taking a yoga class from a friend, going to the playground with another friend (and her kids), and oh yeah, getting our house ready for guests. Next week, my brother, his boyfriend and their dog arrive to spend a whole week with us. I couldn’t be more pleased, but that meant stowing away all those borrowed maternity clothes I had on the bed in the second bedroom.
Needless to say, I was tardy in reading many of your blogs and felt a tad bit uninspired by it all. Therefore, forgive me please, Replay is on the light side this week. Hopefully, a few personal snippets thrown in will carry you over until the next time. =)
Giveaway! I might not have an “in” with the big retailers, so it’s a good thing my friends do. Want a $50 gift card to CSN Stores? Visit Nora’s blog and enter her giveaway! {source: Walking with Nora}
Century! I’m not shy about the 5 marathons I completed. Granted, I completed them over 4 years, but still, that’s a feat, right? Well, how about try a 100-mile race through the mountains. In 1-2 consecutive days? Yeah, that’s what a friend of mine did. He blogged about his training (which took place in FLAT Chicago), but the most exciting post is his recap. If you consider yourself a runner (beginner, expert or otherwise), check out this post. The photos and commentary are amazing. {source: Running with Camera}
Fixed! I’m one of those people who generally takes a new car to the dealership until it’s about 5 years old and then I’m willing to switch to a mechanic. When Sweets and I moved into our condo a few years ago, we were sporting a 7-year old car and an 11-year old SUV, both of which were eligible for a local mechanic. Lucky us, there’s a mechanic right around the corner. We became fast friends with the owners, Ron and Pablo. They’ve always done great work on our vehicles – honest work at a reasonable price with a smile. So, it was a huge surprise and honor to learn that one of our local papers acknowledged them as one of the best mechanics in town. If you’re a local, check out Speedline. They come highly recommended! {source: Chicago Reader, Speedline Auto & Tire}
Travel! I have travel on the brain lately. A lot of it has to do with the rest of the year and plans that are already in the works. A road trip to Maine and Cape Cod to see my family next month. Another long weekend to go camping in Door County. A weekend get-away in Kokomo, Indiana (when you have good friends, you’re willing to travel for them – we’ve owed this couple a trip to their neck of the woods for almost a year!). And the icing on the cake? We just booked a long weekend to New York this fall. A trip we wanted to take this spring and will finally come together in October. Hooray! {no source}
Hilarity! I think I’ve mentioned on here before how much Sweets absolutely loves the show, Wipeout. The show features adult-sized obstacle courses that are virtually impossible to complete. Hilarity ensues when the contestants bounce off huge rubber balls and fall into the water, get sucker punched in the face by a punching machine and fall backwards into mud or slip on a wet surface and fall 20 feet into a pool. I likely wouldn’t watch the show on my own, but it’s hard not to have fun when Sweets is having so much fun. I know it’s hard to fully understand how much he loves this show. That’s why I secretly filmed him the other night (though, he knows about this video now and gave me permission to share it with you). It’s kind of grainy, but you’ll get the idea of the simple pleasures in life. You’ll need sound to enjoy this one (hang in there until the 0:18 mark; I promise it’s worth it).
It’s funny every, single time … and he laughs like that every, single time … multiple times per episode. Sweets sure is a gem, wouldn’t you say?! That’s all from here. Hope y’all have a great weekend and I”ll see you on the flip side!

Hahahaha!! Sweets’ laugh actually made me laugh! I can see why you watch it with him.
That’s pretty awesome you two have planned your vacations. It gives you something to look forward to throughout the year, knowing there’s a nice break from work!
Can’t believe your friend did a 100-mile race. That’s impressive, for a lack of a better word.
Have a great weekend!

I’ve never seen Wipeout, but I love the dubbed Japanese (?) version. I love anything dubbed, it’s usually awesomely bad!
On another note, YAY! It’s Friday!

this is my house exactly when Wipeout is on. I wonder how many times someone getting pummeled can be funny….apparently many, many times. ;)

I have never seen Wipe out before. My brother-in-law was raving about how funny it was this weekend, though, and said I must check it out! I can always use a good laugh so I will have to DVR it this week.
Travel has been on my brain lately, too. I have my Portland trip this fall for the marathon, and I am very seriously considering going to Paris for my 30th birthday in February. I have an apt picked out and the owner has confirmed that it is available in February… I haven’t made my final decision but I’d say it’s extremely likely that I will go. I figure -- “If not now, when?” and it will be a good way to celebrate my 30th birthday.
Happy Weekend!

I watched that show with my daughters last night and although I didn’t find it quite as funny as they (and Sweets) did, it WAS pretty funny. Like you, something I wouldn’t watch on my own but super fun to watch someone you love having so much fun.

I agree with Speedline as a mechanic recommendation — they are very nice and as honest as I’ve ever found a mechanic to be.

When I went home last weekend my mom was laughing HYSTERICALLY in the living room at that show Wipeout. Hahaha. I came out of my room and was like “what the heck is SO funny!?”

That video of Sweets made my day! His laughter is infectious. Love it.

Hahaha I love the Sweets TV-viewing video. So great. Now I’m going to go check out that running post! Sounds very cool!

We watch wipeout for the comedy gold factor. It’s really the most ridiculous show I’ve ever seen, but after hearing my g/f laugh hysterically I had to see what she was watching. I was hooked after that. It’s my guilty pleasure. Crap show, can’t look away ;-)

I love a contagious laugh and his is definitely contagious!

Finding a local mechanic that you trust and like is not easy. My mom had one for over 30 years. I used to have one for my 1987 Honda Civic years ago. Always a good experience and you feel comfortable knowing they are going to treat you right.

Oh my god, I love that video. Yes, the simple things in life are the best indeed.

So glad I took a second to watch that video! HILARIOUS =) Laughter is infectious.

I laughed right along with him in that video! I love that show -- it makes me laugh out loud every time!
July 11th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Oh my gosh that video is hilarious! I need to DVR that show, I used to watch but fell of the wagon. Might have to get back on if Sweets thinks it’s that funny!
July 12th, 2010 at 10:19 am
Sweets and I must be smoking the same stuff because I freaking LOVE Wipeout. Yes, it’s brutal and there is something wrong about it, but it makes me laugh so hard. I’m so glad it keeps getting renewed.

Thanks for that. I sure needed to laugh today :)
